Inspired by Gauguin – Woman Holding A Fruit – 1893 by Sarah Maitland Parks

I wore the softest cotton.
It was warm, gentle. There were sudden furious rows. The men would fight and we
would all keep silence. We would forget anything had
happened. We’d laugh and swim over and through all our questions.
I felt them. The
unexplained violence was in me. I am built of fear and splashes. I don’t dream.
I am dark-haired, still. I am patient and have a private joy. I will hold him.
